Finally some vacation time. After a 7 hour day of travel and multiple train swaps we arrived in Brienz, Switzerland. A city I have never heard of and brought no expectations into and man… even if I had high expectations this would have exceeded them. It’s really one of those pictures don’t do it justice kinds of things. I live by Tahoe, I live by Yosemite, they don’t really hold a candle to the Interlaken region of Switzerland, sorry dad. The jutting rugged peaks covered with equal parts snow and pine. The bright blue/teal lake being fed by crystal clear rivers, it was quite a site to see as our train pulled in.

It looked like a blue screen in the background of a movie where James Bond foiled the villains plan at a locale I’d never go while on ski’s shooting a gun or something. Turns out it was that, but instead of that there were people on benches eating sandwiches and going about their lives.

We didn’t do much the day we arrived, we got to our AirBNB a two story duplex with separate living spaces and two bathrooms. Very nice. I popped on over to the store a.k.a. a small gas station that clearly stocked up for weary travelers caught off guard by all groceries closing at 5PM. I grabbed enough for the night and morning and came home. We let the girls veg on tablets while we unpacked to feel like we’re not living out of suitcases for once and we sat on the deck with a glass of wine / whiskey and rested in the silence.

Brienz is a small town and is very peaceful around 7PM at night, mostly crickets and birds in our area and the occasional distant car. I nice breath of fresh mountain air and some needed downtime. We watched a cinema classic, SALT, and went to bed with no specific plan for the next day but rest. Finally!
